International Student Documentation

If you are on a different visa type or not seeking an F-1 or J-1 visa, complete the first page of the International Student and Financial Verification Form and email directly to

International undergraduate students who will be sponsored by the University of Oregon for an F-1 or J-1 visa are required to submit evidence of sufficient financial resources for one year of study including tuition, fees, housing, insurance, and all personal and educational expenses.

*Those coming with dependents must add $5,000 for a spouse, and $2,500 for each child to the TOTAL estimated cost in the above table.

Required Financial Documentation for Issuance of I-20/DS-2019

The University of Oregon requires evidence of financial resources and/or funding to issue an I-20 (for F-1 visa) or DS-2019 (for J-1 visa). Please follow the instructions below to meet this requirement.

  1. Submit a completed International Student and Financial Verification Form. The information in the "Statement of Financial Support" section should be provided by the person showing the financial documentation (family member, yourself, or other). The name and information provided in this section must match that of the person providing the supporting financial documentation.
  2. Submit one or more financial documents:
    • A bank statement or bank letter showing a current balance equal to or greater than the total estimated cost for one year of study. The bank statement or letter must be for current checking or savings accounts and printed within six months from your date of admission. The statement or letter must have the following information:
      • The name of the bank
      • The office (branch) where the statement was issued
      • Specific contact information for the bank branch
      • The name of the account holder
      • The type of account
      • Amount in the account
      • Date the letter was written
    • Scholarship or tuition remission award letter

    • Graduate Employee (GE) award letter

    • Government or Agency Sponsor

    • Loans

We do not accept the following financial documents:

  • Investment documents
  • Retirement accounts
  • Statements of income
  • Certificates of deposit that will  not mature before you begin at the UO
  • Capability statements
  • Solvency statements
  • Fixed deposits
  • Real estate holdings
  • Estimated value of assets, like gold or silver
