Favorite thing to do in Eugene: Being new to Eugene, my favorite thing to do is walk around downtown and look through some of the stores and restaurants. It’s a great way to get a better feel for the city!
Tips for college success: My biggest piece of advice for students is to pursue something for which you have a passion. So often students worry about how much money certain jobs may make or job availability, and college is the place to really pursue the things you love. There are so many awesome careers out there you probably don’t even know about yet.
Why I decided to work at the UO: I decided to work at the University of Oregon for a couple reasons. Primarily, I chose the University of Oregon because of the diverse community. The school has students from all 50 states and over 100 countries so I knew that I would fit in somewhere! I was also very interested in Eugene because I had never been to the west coast and I look forward to exploring the city, the Oregon Coast, and the Cascades.
Best part of my job: The best part of my job is encouraging students to dream big. I try to tell my students that their dream job absolutely can become a reality if they are willing to make the necessary sacrifices, and this usually adds some energy and excitement to the admissions process.
Favorite Eugene restaurant: My favorite restaurant in Eugene is Voodoo Doughnuts! I have a huge sweet tooth and will often stop in to get an assortment of doughnuts for something I call “doughnut dinner.”
Most memorable college class: My most memorable college class was English 216. It was a literary criticism class with a focus on the Hunger Games. We got to read the trilogy and then write literary criticisms from different lenses and it was awesome!
Favorite quote or song lyric: I love the quote, “Everyone brave is forgiven.” I think that especially in the early part of one’s life it is so important to do hard things and be brave.
Favorite Duck: My favorite duck is Ty Burrell, or Phil Dunphy from the show Modern Family!
If I didn't work at the UO: If I didn’t work in UO Admissions I would start a llama petting zoo on the top of Machu Picchu. I was able to study abroad in Peru and would love to find a way to make a career out of visiting the Incan ruins and hanging out with some llamas.
Special skills, talents, or hobbies: I love Harry Potter! In almost any situation or conversation I usually make Potter-related comments or analogies.
Closing thoughts: I would just like to encourage all students, parents, friends, families, etc. to always call/visit/email to ask questions about the college application process. I know sometimes the task can seem daunting, but it is so important that individuals feel empowered in their college search.
