– Deadlines Extended –

Due to the delay in FAFSA data being supplied to the University of Oregon, the UO is extending the confirmation deadline to June 1, 2024, for first-year students admitted for fall 2024. We are also extending the priority FAFSA filing deadline to April 1, 2024, for all UO students.

Undergraduate Application Fee Waiver Program

We offer application fee waivers to freshman and transfer undergraduate student applicants who are eligible for a variety of financial hardships and to active duty and US veterans. You are eligible to receive an application fee waiver if you meet any of the criteria listed below.

  • I am enrolled in or eligible to participate in the Federal Free or Reduced-Price Lunch program
  • I have Pell Grant-eligible status based on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • I am enrolled in a state, federal, or local program that aids students from low-income families (e.g., Upward Bound, Talent Search, EOP, HEP)
  • I am on state or federal public assistance
  • I have received or am eligible to receive an ACT, College Board (SAT), or NACAC application fee waiver
  • I live in federally subsidized public housing, a foster home or am homeless
  • My annual family income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the USDA Food and Nutrition Service
  • I am a ward of the state or an orphan
  • I am on active duty in the military or I am a veteran (will be required to submit proof of active-duty orders or veteran status; see below for details)
  • I can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader (will be required to submit verification; see below for details)
  • Other factors illustrating financial hardship (will be required to submit a written explanation of circumstances that support the financial need for a fee waiver; see below for details)

Please note: International applicants are not eligible for an application fee waiver. Visit our international admissions page to review the definition of an international applicant

Undocumented students living in the US with financial need are eligible to request an application fee waiver (you do not need to disclose your immigration status to us in order to receive a fee waiver).

UO uses two different application platforms, and the fee waiver criteria is not identical on both platforms. If you see criteria that you meet on this webpage, but do not see it listed on the application platform you choose, please contact your admission counselor and they will assist you in completing your fee waiver request.

Step-by-step instructions on how to apply with an application fee waiver:

  • Choose the application platform of your choice (Common Application, Oregon Application)
    • Prior to submitting the application, complete the fee waiver section of the application. Select all of the criteria that you meet. Sign the form digitally, acknowledging that you are providing true and accurate information.
  • UO does not require counselor verification or documentation demonstrating proof of financial need to complete the fee waiver request, unless you only select ONE of these options:
    • I am on active duty in the military or am a veteran.
Once you have submitted your admissions application and have received an email with your admissions portal login information (typically within 48 business hours of applying), please log into your admissions portal, click on the application fee waiver link, and upload a copy of your DD214 or active-duty military orders.
(This option is only available on the Oregon Application. If you are applying via the Common Application and this is the only fee waiver criteria you meet, please contact your admissions counselor and they will assist you in completing your fee waiver request.)
    • I can provide a supporting statement from a school official, college access counselor, financial aid officer, or community leader.
Please add the email address of your high school counselor (or another school official) to the Common App, and a request will be emailed to that individual, who will be asked to confirm your eligibility. Once we receive this confirmation, your fee waiver request will be complete. If you need to send in another form of confirmation from a school official, such as a physical letter or email, please email a copy of the document to admissions@uoregon.edu.
(This option is only available on the Common App. If you are applying via the Oregon App and this is the only fee waiver criteria you meet, please contact your admissions counselor and they will assist you in completing your fee waiver request).
    • Other factors illustrating financial hardship.
When you select this option, an empty text box appears for you to provide more information about the circumstances that support your financial need for a waiver. Once you have submitted the explanation your fee waiver request is complete.
(This option is only available on the Oregon App. If you are applying via the Common App and this is the only fee waiver criteria you meet, please contact your admissions counselor and they will assist you in completing your fee waiver request.)

Application fee waivers are granted to applicants with genuine financial need. The UO Office of Admissions administers the application fee waiver program and may add, remove, or modify methods of confirmation as needed over time. The UO Office of Admissions also may request documentation or verification of eligibility at any time.
