Where you're most likely to be found hanging out on campus: I like the ground floor of the Erb Memorial Union (EMU), where all the student clubs and organizations are headquartered. This is the place to find a lot of exciting political and social action on campus, to hear about the coolest on-campus events, from dance shows to poetry readings to discussion groups.
Favorite thing to do in Eugene: I used to sell goat cheese at the Saturday Market, and I still love to go see all the crafts, as well as the gorgeous produce from our region. I also like to take my dog to the different dog parks. Of course, no day is complete without a visit to one of my favorite coffee joints, and sometimes I have to visit more than one.
Tips for college success: Don’t underestimate yourself. I think the worst thing you can do upon entering college is shut yourself off from all the different options available to you. There is no excuse for not pushing yourself to try new things and find what you love.
Why you decided to work at the UO: I love the energy of this campus; there are so many people doing such a wide variety of things. The warmth and openness of the student body caught my attention when I was looking for schools myself, and since then I have never been disappointed in how engaged the students are here.
Favorite Eugene restaurant: I’m a major foodie, so I love trying new places or visiting old favorites. I love Laughing Planet for its bizarre burritos like Thai veggies and peanut sauce, Café Soriah for special occasions, Midtown for brioche French toast in the mornings, and Mezza Luna Pizzeria as often as possible.
Favorite UO fun fact: Deady Hall, the oldest building on campus, is rumored to be haunted.
Most memorable college class: The Cold War, Trauma, and Memory, with Suzanne Clark in the Robert D. Clark Honors College. Prof. Clark is, in fact, the daughter of former UO president Robert D. Clark, for whom the Honors College is named. In her class we read amazing books, watched movies, and analyzed a very specific moment in American politics and culture.
