Favorite thing to do in Eugene: Summers are the best in Eugene; it’s sunny and warm and I like to be outside! My favorite activity is inner tubing on the McKenzie River
Tips for college success: Live in the residence halls your first year! You will need a support system in college and you will meet a lot of people in the residence halls, possibly life-long friends. Find your place on campus and get involved, whether it’s music, sports, student government… the possibilities are endless, so everyone should find some type of club or activity to get involved in. Also, from someone who changed her major three times, I would suggest exploring your interests and taking a variety of different classes if you are unsure of what you want to major in. Lastly, have fun in college but don’t forget to study
Why you decided to work at the UO: I moved to Eugene almost three years ago to work for a program called ASPIRE through AmeriCorps. I developed a mentoring program at a high school to encourage students to apply to college, and assist them through the process. This position is what interested me in working in higher education—and the University of Oregon is a great school
Best part of your job: There are many great aspects of my job, one being traveling to sunny Southern California in the fall when it’s raining in Eugene. Overall I just really enjoy sharing information with prospective students and helping them through the application process
Favorite Eugene restaurant: For a spendier restaurant I like Café Soriah, but for more of a hang- out spot I like Cornucopia
If I didn’t work in Admissions I’d be: If I could do anything, I would write for the travel section of The Seattle Times newspaper. It was my favorite section of the Sunday paper growing up. Also, it would be like a permanent vacation.
