Linda and Pete Paisley: Duck Parents

Linda and Pete Paisley
Kamuela, Hawaii
The Paisleys' daughter Lauren is a pre-business administration major at the UO.
How did Lauren decide the UO was right for her?
Lauren reviewed all she could about the UO from brochures, exploring online, and talking with other students. Then we took a trip to Eugene to experience the Duck Days spring visit program.
What kind of impression has the campus made on you?
Between the two of us, we have visited for Duck Days, the IntroDUCKtion orientation, and Family Weekend. The campus has a great college atmosphere, beautiful layout, close-knit buildings with parks and trees everywhere, and students being active and involved with each other (i.e. talking, bike riding, studying, eating, and laughing).
Can you describe your experience as the parent of a first-year college student?
The faculty and staff that we met were genuine and appeared to sincerely care about our daughter's success. Online and on the phone, the UO is fantastic and always helpful. All the websites I have used have been easy and informative. We signed up for the Parent and Family Association, and the monthly newsletters have been full of all sorts of information. I look forward to reading it each month.
How have you stayed in contact with Lauren?
We stay in contact on e-mail, cell phone, mail, and on Skype. Lauren also made a trip home for Christmas.
Any words of wisdom for parents of freshmen?
Listen to your student. Guide him or her when assistance or help is needed.
