The University of Oregon School of Music has been a member of the National Association of Schools of Music since 1924. It is fully accredited to award all bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in music. As the only full-range professional music school in the Oregon University System, and one of the major music institutions in the western U.S., it offers majors in music performance, music education, music composition, music theory, jazz studies, and music with a liberal arts emphasis.

The outstanding faculty, high standards, flexible and comprehensive curriculum, and nurturing atmosphere make the School of Music a unique, positive, and challenging learning environment.

School of Music ensembles perform regularly on and off campus. Its premier ensembles are frequently featured in festivals and competitions throughout the western U.S. The Oregon Marching Band has traveled to the Fiesta Bowl, Rose Bowl, Cotton Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Sun Bowl, and Aloha Bowl in recent years. For advanced students, paid performance opportunities are available in the Eugene Symphony Orchestra; with other community ensembles, churches, and clubs; and through private teaching and accompanying opportunities.

You may study any of the band and orchestral instruments as well as piano, organ, voice, harpsichord, harp, and both acoustic and electric guitar. Whatever your musical skill level, you may audition for any of our student ensembles, including the University Symphony, Oregon Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Oregon Marching Band, Green Garter Band, Basketball Band, University Singers, Chamber Choir, Men’s Chorus, Women’s Chorus, Opera Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Lab Bands, Jazz Combos, Percussion Ensemble, Tuba Choir, Trombone Ensemble, Vocal Jazz Ensemble, East European Folk Ensemble, Gospel Ensemble, and Pacific Rim Gamelan.
