Freshman requirements

In the Tanzanian system: Applicants who have completed their A-levels must have passed two A-level subjects and five O-level subjects (including English and Math). Applicants who have completed only O-levels must have passed English, Math, and three addtional subjects as well as have a minimum average of 4 on the 5 point scale. Or the equivalent in the U.S. system: a 'B' average or a 3.00 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.00 GPA grading scale. If your high school uses a different grading scale, please contact us.

If you do not meet the minimum requirements, you may still be considered for admission. Please explain your situation in the Special Circumstances section of the application or contact us for more information.

English Language Requirement for Nonnative Speakers

Minimum score from one of the following tests: 

  • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
    • IBT (Internet Based TOEFL): 61 
    • PBT (Paper Based TOEFL): 500 
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 6.0 

The University of Oregon (UO) offers conditional admission to international undergraduate students who have not yet reached the minimum TOEFL or IELTS score.
