“Your culture, your life experience, your perspectives are essential in the give and take of education.”
— Dave Frohnmayer, President University of Oregon from his opening address to the February 2008 ONE Day.
ONE Day is an important event that will prepare high school students for educational opportunities after high school. Students will attend workshops on admissions, financial aid, career exploration, storytelling, and Northwest Indian languages and cultural history. Our Native American Student Union club co-directors will talk about getting involved in campus university clubs and organizations.
The aim of this event will be to emphasize the importance of Native American culture in attaining a college education. It is our hope that the presentations will help guide your Native American students in goal setting and planning for post-secondary education, with a focus on Native American traditional values and a greater understanding and predication for the Native American world view.
Our workshops will be led by native and non-native faculty, as well as community members. It is our hope that students come away from these presentations with a greater understanding of their culture and the importance of higher education.
All Native American students and workers in the Native American education community are invited to this important event.
